1. UEFA Champions League
2. NBA Playoffs: Clippers vs. Spurs
3. NBA Playoffs: Cavaliers vs. Celtics
4. NBA Playoffs: Warriors vs. Pelicans
5. Liga MX soccer
6. NBA Playoffs: Rockets vs. Mavericks
7. La Liga soccer
8. NBA Playoffs: Bulls vs. Bucks
9. NBA Playoffs: Grizzlies vs. Trail Blazers
10. Nascar: Toyota Owners 400

Another week of the NBA playoffs down, another week of tons of Slingbox users watching the NBA playoffs live on their phones, tablets and laptops. Just like last week, six of the eight postseason series made our list. Last week, the most popular series was the Golden State-New Orleans matchup that ended in a sweep; this week the most popular was the L.A. Clippers-San Antonio series which is currently deadlocked with two wins apiece.

However, sitting atop all the basketball on the list, just like last week, was the UEFA Champions League. Last week saw Bayern Munich crush Porto 6-1, Barcelona beat Paris Saint-Germain 2-0, Real Madrid defeat Atletico Madrid 1-0, and Monaco and Juventus play to a 0-0 draw.

We’ll be back next week with another set of top 10s.

Top 10 most watched of the week (entertainment): Bruce Jenner’s interview is huge on Slingbox

abc_jenner_sawyer_2_wy_150424_16x9_992

Our 10 most watched programs of the week on Slingbox, non-sports edition, were as follows. Check after the list for a few quick thoughts on this week’s most watched home entertainment:

1. Grey’s Anatomy
2. Bruce Jenner — The Interview
3. The Big Bang Theory
4. Game of Thrones
5. Today
6. Criminal Minds
7. Keeping Up with the Kardashians
8. Scandal
9. The Voice
10. Modern Family

On Friday, former Olympian and reality show star Bruce Jenner publicly came out as transgender, in an ABC news special hosted by Diane Sawyer. It was a huge event, officially confirming the status of arguably the most famous transgender individual in the U.S. And when event TV like that crops up, it always pays to have a Slingbox to watch anywhere online — as current Slingbox users showed, propelling Jenner’s interview to No. 2 on our weekly top 10.

Coincidentally (or maybe not), Jenner’s reality show Keeping up with the Kardashians also made the list. It will be interesting to see whether Jenner’s own show, which is reportedly debuting this summer, puts up as strong a showing as the Kardashians as a whole have. Elsewhere, Grey’s Anatomy was again enormously successful, reaching the pinnacle of our list, while Game of Thrones remained strong as well at No. 4.

We’ll be back tomorrow with our sports top 10.

Top 10 most watched of the week (sports): NBA Playoffs take center stage

Your 10 most watched programs of the week on Slingbox, sports edition, were as follows. Check after the list for a few quick thoughts on this week’s most watched sports:

1. UEFA Champions League
2. NBA Playoffs: Pelicans vs. Warriors
3. Liga MX soccer
4. NBA Playoffs: Bucks vs. Bulls
5. La Liga soccer
6. NBA Playoffs: Celtics vs. Cavaliers
7. NBA Playoffs: Spurs vs. Clippers
8. NBA Playoffs: Mavericks vs. Rockets
9. Nascar: Food City 500
10. NBA Playoffs: Nets vs. Hawks

The NBA postseason kicked off on Saturday, and its presence was unmistakable on our weekly top 10. Enough Slingbox users were watching the basketball playoffs on their phones, tablets and laptops to place six of the eight first-round series on our list. The only two series that didn’t make it on were Grizzlies-Trail Blazers and Raptors-Wizards.

But ultimately the champion this week was the world’s most popular sport, as the UEFA Champions League topped all the NBA series in viewership. The past week saw some key matches in the annual club competition, as Juventus beat Monaco 1-0, Porto beat Bayern Munich 3-1, Barcelona beat Paris Saint-Germain 3-1 and Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid played to a scoreless draw. The only non-basketball or soccer program on the list this week was Nascar’s Food City 500 in Bristol, which was won by Matt Kenseth.

We’ll be back next week with another set of top 10s.

Top 10 most watched of the week (entertainment): Shonda Rhimes shows Anatomize and Scandalize the list

scandal-s3-700x400

Our 10 most watched programs of the week on Slingbox, non-sports edition, were as follows. Check after the list for a few quick thoughts on this week’s most watched home entertainment:

1. The Big Bang Theory
2. Game of Thrones
3. Today
4. Grey’s Anatomy
5. NCIS
6. The Voice
7. Criminal Minds
8. Keeping Up with the Kardashians
9. Good Morning America
10. Scandal

Shonda Rhimes is well-known for creating ABC juggernauts Grey’s Anatomy (by now a seasoned veteran in its 11th season) and Scandal (just hitting its prime in its 4th). Both shows made it onto our top 10 this week — we’ll have to wait to see if Rhimes can ever make it a trifecta by making her other currently airing series How To Get Away With Murder on as well.

Meanwhile, we again saw huge numbers watching Game of Thrones online, which is something we can expect to continue for as long as the fifth season’s 10 episodes are airing. It should be mentioned that we also saw tons of people watching The Big Bang Theory online, as the CBS comedy shows absolutely no signs of slowing down in its eighth season.

We’ll be back tomorrow with our sports top 10.

Top 10 most watched of the week (sports): The Masters masters our list

GOLF-US-MASTERS-ROUND4-FINAL

Your 10 most watched programs of the week on Slingbox, sports edition, were as follows. Check after the list for a few quick thoughts on this week’s most watched sports:

1. 2015 Masters Tournament
2. Liga MX soccer
3. La Liga soccer
4. NASCAR: Duck Commander 500
5. CONCACAF Champions League soccer
6. English Premier League soccer
7. CONMEBOL Copa Libertadores soccer
8. MLB: Red Sox vs. Yankees
9. WCBB: Notre Dame vs. Connecticut
10. MLB: Giants vs. Padres

Spring means a lot of things: flowers blooming, baseball season starting, Game of Thrones returning, and the Masters Tournament at Augusta National awarding one very talented golfer a verdant green jacket. This year it was 21-year-old Jordan Spieth who took home the honor, becoming the youngest Masters champion ever with the exception of Tiger Woods in 1997. Enough Slingbox users were watching to shoot the tournament all the way to the top spot on our weekly list.

Slingbox users were also watching plenty of baseball on their phones, tablets and laptops as two games made it onto our list: the Red Sox-Yankees showdown in the Bronx that went 19 innings, and the Padres-Giants game that saw World Series MVP Madison Bumgarner deliver the World Series championship flag via horse. And the excitement about college basketball on Slingbox wasn’t quite over yet, as the final of the 2015 Women’s NCAA Basketball Tournament, which saw UConn defeat Notre Dame to secure their third consecutive title, landed at No. 9.
We’ll be back next week with another set of top 10s.

Top 10 most watched of the week (entertainment): Winter is coming to the top 10

Game-of-Thrones-Season-4-Logo

Our 10 most watched programs of the week on Slingbox, non-sports edition, were as follows. Check after the list for a few quick thoughts on this week’s most watched home entertainment:

1. The Big Bang Theory
2. The Voice
3. Today
4. Game of Thrones
5. Grey’s Anatomy
6. Better Call Saul
7. Law & Order: Special Victims Unit
8. Criminal Minds
9. Keeping Up with the Kardashians
10. NCIS

Before we get into this week’s list, a quick housekeeping note: We’ve begun producing the top 10 based on most watched programming whether live or recorded (previously it had just been live). Our data shows that more than 70 percent of Slingbox sessions involve live TV, but plenty of our customers make us of their TV’s DVR functions as well, so this should give us a more accurate picture of what people are watching.

One difference that was immediately noticeable was that while the Today show remained strong, its morning show counterpart Good Morning America, which had been hovering near the top of the list as well, fell completely off. In its place was the most watched show in HBO history, which made its season 5 debut on Sunday night. Enough Slingbox users were watching Game of Thrones on phones, watching Game of Thrones on tablets, watching Game of Thrones on laptops and generally watching Game of Thrones online to put the fantasy epic on our list at No. 4.

Other interesting entrants included Better Call Saul, the Breaking Bad spinoff that we haven’t seen on the list before. Ditto for Keeping Up with the Kardashians, the E! reality stalwart that’s going on 10 seasons. And Grey’s Anatomy, which is currently in its 11th season, popped back up after missing the top 10 for several weeks in a row.

We’ll be back tomorrow with our sports top 10.

Top 10 most watched of the week (sports): Final Four ends with a bang

NCAA_DUKE_WISCONSIN_FINAL_FOUR_BASKETBALL_43204599

Your 10 most watched programs of the week on Slingbox, sports edition, were as follows. Check after the list for a few quick thoughts on this week’s most watched live sports:

1. CBB: Duke vs. Wisconsin
2. CBB: Kentucky vs. Wisconsin
3. CBB: Michigan State vs. Duke
4. Liga MX soccer
5. PGA Tour: Shell Houston Open
6. La Liga soccer
7. English Premier League soccer
8. MLB: Cardinals vs. Cubs
9. NBA: Bulls vs. Cavaliers
10. ATP Tour: Grand Prix Hassan II

Given how incredibly strong March Madness was on Slingbox (last week all but one entrant on our top 10 came from the tournament), it’s no surprise that our three top spots this week were reserved for the three Final Four games in Indianapolis. The most popular was the final that saw Duke defeat Wisconsin, while the Badgers’ upset of overwhelming title favorite Kentucky was No. 2.

There was a diverse group of sports on the rest of the list, as golf had a very strong showing with the Shell Houston Open, which was won by J.B. Holmes in come-from-behind fashion. Soccer made its usual multiple appearances, the first MLB game of the season made it on, and we even saw a tennis tournament — the Grand Prix Hassan II in Casablanca, to be specific — for the first time in a while.

We’ll be back next week with another set of top 10s.
