Slingbox Sighting: 4 Stars & Editor’s Choice on PC Mag

PC Mag

Since we launched the Slingbox M2 this past summer, you may have seen the new device featured on websites like Bloomberg, USA Today and Woman’s Day and reviewed on several top tech blogs including Twice, TechCrunch and more.  We are always thrilled to come across coverage about Slingbox and wanted to highlight a new feature on PC Mag, which you can read here.

Senior Analyst Will Greenwald reviews the Slingbox M2 and gives it a close to perfect rating with four out of five stars, calling our TV Anywhere platform “excellent.” During his review, Greenwald touches on one of the main questions we’ve been asked about the launch of the M2 – how is it different than the M1? Providing a great explanation, he dives into details about how we continue to use the same industry leading technology as the M1 in terms of its design, setup process and how it functions with the Slingplayer apps – however, we’ve upgraded the Slingplayer platform by including unlimited app downloads in the price of the M2, ultimately saving our consumers money, especially those who have multiple mobile devices.

Here’s a quick snapshot of what Greenwald has to say about the M2:

“The price hike for the M2 itself might seem unpalatable, but the M1 required the purchase of Slingplayer apps to watch content on mobile devices. These apps were $15 each, so if you wanted to stream to multiple platforms, you could easily end up spending more than $200. With that in mind, the M2’s price hike seems fair, since Android, Fire TV, iOS, OS X, Roku, Windows, and Windows Mobile apps are now all freely available.”

We couldn’t have explained it better ourselves, PC Mag!

5. NFL: RedZone LIVE

The NFL continues to dominate our top 10 lists each week and with the regular season rapidly winding down, we thought we would take a look at the league’s slowly solidifying playoff picture.

In the NFC, the unbeaten Carolina Panthers have not only clinched the NFC South division, they also have secured a first-round bye. The Arizona Cardinals have locked up the NFC West and now have their sights set on a first-round bye, which they can guarantee with one win in the final two weeks of the season. The NFC North title is still up for grabs with the Green Bay Packers needing another victory and a Minnesota Vikings loss to grab the top spot. In the NFC East, the Washington Redskins are in the driver’s seat and can control their own fate by winning this weekend. If they lose, the Philadelphia Eagles can hold the division title by winning their final two games.

In the AFC, the New England Patriots are sitting pretty in the East, having secured the division and a first-round bye. The Cincinnati Bengals are definitely going to the post-season but the results of the final two games will determine if they are playing as the AFC North champions or a wild-card entry.  After last week’s victory over the Indianapolis Colts, the Houston Texans are in control of the AFC South and can secure the division with one more win. The AFC West is also still up for grabs, with the Denver Broncos and Kansas City Chiefs both within striking distance of the title.

Use your Slingbox to tune into the last games of the regular season before playoffs kick off on Saturday, January 9.

We’ll be back in the New Year with more lists.

The season finale of Survivor: Second Chance aired last week and the long-running show proved it’s still a fan favorite as it made our top ten list. This was the 31st season of the reality series, which first aired in May 2000 and now has 31 seasons with over 470 episodes..

Each season is set in a different remote isolated location; the most recent iteration was taped in Koh Rong, Cambodia. For the first time, all of the players were returning from previous seasons. They were selected by a public vote online that allowed viewers to give their favorites who had previously been voted out of the tribe a second chance at securing the “Sole Survivor” title and the one million dollar prize. Other unique aspects of this season included the introduction of hidden immunity idols to immunity challenges before the tribes merged, the addition of a third tribe and a vote-stealing advantage.

Use your Slingbox to see what surprises are in store when the next season of Survivor premiers February 17, 2016 on CBS.

We hope everyone has a happy holiday; we’ll be back Friday with sports!

Your 10 most watched-programs of the week on Slingbox, sports edition, were as follows. Check after the list for a few quick thoughts on this week’s most-watched sports.

1. NFL: Cowboys at Packers
2. NFL: Patriots vs Texans
3. NFL RedZone Live

5. Futbol UEFA Liga de Campeones
6. NFL: Raiders at Broncos
7. NFL: Falcons at Panthers
8. NFL: Redskins at Bears
9. Futbol Mexicano Primera Division
10. NFL: Steelers at Bengals

With the Super Bowl less than two months away, it is no surprise that Slingbox users have been following their favorite teams and tuning into the NFL action each week. This week, the Carolina Panthers continued their impressive winning streak as they beat the Atlanta Falcons in a blowout, 38-0.  As only the ninth team in the 95-year history of the NFL to start the season with a 13-0 record, many think it’s likely the Panthers will play in Super Bowl 50.

The last time the Carolina Panthers made a Super Bowl appearance was on February 1, 2004 when they faced off against the New England Patriots, losing 32-39. The Panthers will be looking to improve on that performance if they make it to the championship game this year. History may not be in their favor, however, as only three of the eight previous teams to start 13-0 won the Lombardi Trophy.

Use your Slingbox to tune into the final three weeks of the NFL regular season as teams continue to fight for playoff positioning.

We’ll be back next week with more lists.

Ever since Keeping Up with the Kardashians aired on October 14, 2007, the Kardashian family has created an empire that doesn’t seem to ever stop expanding. The reality television show, which premiered eight years ago, is currently on its eleventh season. Each episode focuses on the professional and personal lives of the Kardashian-Jenner family, mostly highlighting the three Kardashian daughters: Kim Kardashian, Kourtney Kardashian and Khloe Kardashian.

By spending years in the reality television spotlight and creating numerous additional businesses, the Kardashian-Jenner sisters are said to have a cumulative new worth of $101 million, according to the website, The Richest. Aside from their show, the sisters make the big bucks through modeling, their Dash clothing line, smartphone applications, beauty lines, books and much more. There isn’t a set time when the reality show is suspected to go off the air, and as of now, the Kardashian-Jenner clan doesn’t seem to be going anywhere anytime soon.

Tune in with your Slingbox to watch Keeping Up with the Kardashians Sundays at 9:00 p.m. We’ll be back Friday with sports.

Slingplayer Makes List of Top Apps to Look At

IMG_0847

Our readers are some of our biggest Slingbox fans and we always love to keep you updated on exciting news involving the brand. Earlier this month, the website Tech.Co released this article highlighting the “Top 3 App-Centric Companies You Should Study” and guess who was on the list!

According to writer Ryan Kh, entrepreneurs have a lot to learn from other companies in their space – especially when it comes to apps. Seeing as Slingbox’s main purpose is to deliver users TV content on-the-go, perfecting our Slingplayer app and keeping it in tip-top shape is one of our main priorities. This is how we keep our platform working and our customers entertained, no matter where they are, as long as they have an internet connection.

Here’s our favorite part from the piece:

“The secret ingredient is the app, not the box. You hook up the box once. It is the app you interact with. The app is what turns your iPhone, iPad, and every other connected device into a portable TV. When you are away from home, or just in another room, your Slingbox app is your set-top box. They monopolize that space because they realized that apps could solve industry-created problems. If some big industry reality is keeping you down, there just might be an app for that.”

You may recognize the two other companies on Tech.Co’s list – Uber and Netflix!

Other than Slingplayer, what are your favorite apps?
