10. Criminal Minds

With many of the same shows making the top 10 list this week, we thought we’d shine the spotlight on a longtime Slingbox fan favorite – Criminal MindsCriminal Minds has been one of America’s favorite crime dramas since it first aired on September 22, 2005. Unlike other police procedurals that focus on crime itself, Criminal Minds focuses on the process of profiling criminals, following a team of profilers at the FBI’s Behavioral Analysis Unit. Now in its 11th season, more than 250 episodes have aired.

Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders, a new spin-off of the show, premiered earlier this month. Unlike the original, which exclusively covers domestic crime, Beyond Borders focuses on a team of FBI agents that solve cases involving American citizens on foreign soil.  The first three episodes have seen the International Team travel to Thailand, India and Egypt.

If you’re a Criminal Minds fan, be sure to use your Slingbox to check out Beyond Borders on Wednesdays at 10:00 p.m. on CBS, immediately following the original Criminal Minds.

You may also notice that amongst the college hoops, one NBA game made it onto this week’s list – the matchup between the Warrior and Spurs. The game was actually the highest-rated NBA game in 14 years of those broadcasts airing head-to head-against March Madness, according to Sports Media Watch.

3. Today

The finale of The Bachelor made the number two spot on our top 10 entertainment list this week. As the show ended its 20th season, it didn’t disappoint when it came to romance and drama, the two hallmarks of the series. WARNING: Finale spoilers below!

The two finalists competing for Ben Higgins’ heart were Lauren Bushnell and JoJo Fletcher. The most shocking aspect of this season was that Ben made the decision to tell both women he loved them on the episode before the finale, something that has never been done by a bachelor or bachelorette before. The two women were so confident in Ben’s feelings toward them that they both seemed sure he would end up getting down on one knee to propose.

In the end, Ben decided to fully commit to Lauren and even called her dad to get permission before he got down on one knee, describing her as “the girl he couldn’t spend his life without.” Unfortunately for JoJo, this marked the end of her fairytale as she left blindsided and heartbroken. However, she will soon have another chance to find love as it was announced on After the Final Rose that she will be the next bachelorette.

Use your Slingbox to watch the season premiere of The Bachelorette, set to air on ABC on May 23.

We’ll be back Friday with sports.

Slingbox users race to keep up with NASCAR and the 2016 Election: Top 5 Sports & Entertainment

Our 5 most-watched programs of the week on Slingbox, for both sports and entertainment, were as follows. Check after the lists for a few quick thoughts on this week’s most-watched home entertainment and sports:

1. The Walking Dead
2. Today
3. Republican Debate
4. The Big Bang Theory
5. The Place for Politics 2016

1. SportsCenter
2. Futbol Mexicano Primera Division
3. Spanish Primera Division Soccer
4. NBA: Thunder at Warriors
5. NASCAR Racing

This week, we’re switching things up and highlighting the top five shows in both sports and entertainment on Slingbox. Week after week in 2016, we are seeing the same shows score big with Slingbox users; two of the biggest viewing trends this year seem to be a surge in popularity for both NASCAR and politics.

Since the Sprint Cup series season started last month at Daytona, NASCAR Racing has been in the top 5 sports shows Slingbox fans watch each week. This bucks the general trend with NASCAR TV ratings, which have decreased this year, a trend many are attributing to the retirement of fan favorite Jeff Gordon. On the other hand, the popularity of 2016 election coverage mirrors the unprecedented interest in politics sweeping the country as we continue to move further down the road to the White House.

The timing for the next Republican and Democratic debates is still up in the air but in the meantime, political junkies can use their Slingbox to catch the latest updates from the campaign trail on all of the major news networks. Racing fans can “sling” the Good Sam 500 starting at 3 p.m. ET this Sunday on FOX.

We’ll be back next week with more lists.

How to use your Slingbox to watch March Madness

March Madness is known to be one of the greatest sporting events each year. Rather than being one highly-anticipated game, this sports spectacle gives fans a whole month to celebrate their favorite college basketball teams.  According to Nielsen, last year’s competition was the most-watched tournament in 22 years, averaging 11.3 million total viewers.

We’re well aware of the limitations facing college basketball fans – such as keeping track of the craziness when you’re on-the-go or tuning in when you don’t have cable at your dorm. Don’t let your pesky school schedule, spring break plans or any other activities prevent you from catching the action! To help solve these problems, we’ve put together a simple guide on how to use your Slingbox to watch March Madness anywhere using your mobile device, laptop or tablet.

  • Connect your Slingbox to your home (aka parents) set-top box to “sling” the March Madness games to a mobile device anywhere in the world where an internet connection is available.
  • You can watch and control your DVR, which means you are able to record a game for later.
  • You can use a streamer like Apple TV, Chromecast, Fire TV, or Roku to watch the tournament on a second television, in addition to catching it on your smartphone.

March Madness comes at a perfect time as the Slingbox M2 is now available online and in stores for $149.99, compared to $199.99. Being a sports fanatic isn’t as fun when you’re on the road and missing your teams, so get the most value from your cable or satellite subscription using Slingbox!

Selection Sunday is approaching; will you be using Slingbox to watch the madness?
